A no-scalpel vasectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed to achieve permanent male sterilisation. The procedure is designed to be less invasive and have a shorter recovery time compared to traditional vasectomy methods. Here's an overview of the recovery process following a no-scalpel vasectomy:

The Recovery Process

01 — Immediately After the Procedure

Immediately the procedure, you will be able to go home and relax. You might experience some mild discomfort, but this can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

02 — Rest and Recovery at Home

It's recommended to take it easy for the first couple of days after the procedure. Avoid any strenuous activities, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise.

Apply ice packs to the scrotal area periodically during the first 24 hours to reduce swelling and discomfort.

03 — Pain Management

Mild pain and discomfort are common after the procedure. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or paracetamol can help manage this discomfort.

Follow your doctor's instructions on medication usage and dosage.

04 – Dressing and Care

Your doctor will provide instructions on caring for the surgical site. You might be advised to keep the area clean and dry. No scrotal support is necessary, however we recommend you wear snug-fitting underwear for support.

5 – Sexual Activity

It's generally recommended to avoid sexual activity for about a week or as advised by your doctor.

Once you resume sexual activity, using alternate forms of contraception is essential until you receive confirmation from your doctor that the procedure was successful.

6 – Returning to Work

The time you need to take off work will depend on your job and how you feel during recovery. Many men are able to return to work within a few days to a week.

7 – Swelling and Bruising

Some degree of swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the scrotal area is normal and should subside over time.

If you notice severe or prolonged swelling, increasing pain, or signs of infection (redness, warmth, pus), contact your doctor immediately.

Remember that individual recovery experiences can vary. It's important to follow your doctor's post-operative instructions closely and reach out to them if you have any concerns or unusual symptoms during your recovery.
